Court awards compensation for arrest to Dagestani activist Salim Khalitov

In Makhachkala, a court partially granted a lawsuit filed by activist Salim Khalitov against the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and awarded him 30,000 roubles in compensation for non-pecuniary damage for his arrest. The defence intends to seek greater compensation.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 16, Salim Khalitov filed a lawsuit with a request to recover 768,420 roubles from the Russian MIA as compensation for an unjustified arrest.

On October 13, 2021, Salim Khalitov held a picket with a demand to return the national elections for the leader of Dagestan. According to the activist, law enforcers attacked him and tried to provoke a fight. On October 14, 2021, Salim Khalitov was detained on a square, and the court arrested him for 10 days for disobeying the police. In the detention centre, Salim Khalitov declared a dry hunger strike.
