Elkhan Aliev, PFPA activist, arrested

Elkhan Aliev, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has been arrested for 30 days on charges of disobeying the police and petty hooliganism. Ali Kerimli, the PFPA leader, has stated that Aliev is being persecuted because of his active oppositional activities.

"The charges are absolutely far-fetched. Elkhan Aliev was detained while he was driving his car. He obeyed, when policemen signalled him to stop," said Natig Adilov, the head of the PFPA press service.

"Elkhan Aliev has been arrested for the third time over the past six months. Thus, on the eve of the spring holiday of Novruz Bayram, he was deprived of the opportunity to spend time with his family and young children ... He is arrested for his oppositional activities, participation in protests, and criticism of authorities in social networks," Ali Kerimli has added.
