About 5000 Azerbaijani citizens evacuated from Ukraine

Since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine, about 5000 Azerbaijani citizens have been evacuated from the country to Baku. They are being transported from countries neighbouring Ukraine by charter flights and buses.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that after the start of fighting by Russian troops in Ukraine, Azerbaijani citizens began to leave the country. By March 7, 3138 Azerbaijani residents were evacuated from Ukraine.

On February 27, three Azerbaijani citizens were killed and four others were injured during a shelling attack when they tried to evacuate from the Odessa Region of Ukraine to Moldova. Another Azerbaijani citizen was killed by a shot from an unknown direction in Kharkov. On March 2, the number of Azerbaijani citizens killed in Ukraine rose to five. On March 7, as a result of air strikes, the building of the honorary consulate of Azerbaijan in Kharkov was damaged.

For the export of Azerbaijani citizens, 12 flights were organized to the cities of Bucharest and Iasi in Romania, as well as to the Polish city of Katowice. In addition, Azerbaijani citizens are taken by bus from countries neighbouring Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), children, women, the elderly, and the disabled are being evacuated first.
