Russian MoD: more than 174,000 civilians evacuated from Ukraine

Since the start of the special military operation, more than 174,000 refugees have arrived in Russia from Ukraine, including 44,250 children, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) reports. According to the UN information, more than two million people left Ukraine during the hostilities.

On March 5, the Russian side announced that it had opened humanitarian corridors and announced the introduction of a ceasefire regime for the evacuation of residents of Mariupol and Volnovakha. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced that on March 6, the second attempt to start the evacuation of Mariupol residents failed because of the absence of detailed agreements between the parties regarding the movement of civilians.

Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General, has said that residents of Ukraine should be able to leave the war zone in any direction.

Since the beginning of the Russian special military operation, as of March 8, 474 civilians have died in Ukraine, and 861 have been injured, reports the website of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
