Residents of Georgian village install monument to Stalin

In the village of Variani, Gori municipality, a monument to Joseph Stalin was erected. No one objected to the erection thereof, local residents assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2010, a monument to Stalin, installed in his homeland, the city of Gori, was dismantled. On December 21, 2017, on Stalin's 138th birthday, his bust was erected in the central square of Gori, but Georgian communists continue insisting on restoration of the dismantled monument.

Zaza Tsitsikashvili, a Variani villager, said the village "is mostly inhabited by people who respect Stalin," the "News-Georgia" reports.

Many residents of Georgia are unaware of the scale of Stalin's repressions and are proud of him as a countryman who held the highest post in the Soviet Union, historians explain. Some local residents interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have confirmed their sympathy for Stalin.
