Comic Mirzalizade’s ban on entry into Russia reduced to 14 years

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) enforced the decision of the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow by cancelling a life-long ban on entry into Russia for Talysh comic Idrak Mirzalizade. The ban expires on August 27, 2035, comic’s advocate Sergey Badamshin reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 30, 2021, the Russian MIA banned ethnic Talysh Idrak Mirzalizade, a citizen of Belarus, who served an administrative arrest for his joke about xenophobia, from entering Russia for life. After that, Idrak Mirzalizade left Russia and went to Belarus, and then, according to unconfirmed reports, the comic left for Turkey. In September, Idrak Mirzalizade appealed against the life-long ban on his entry into Russia.

The administrative prosecution and then the ban on staying in Russia were provoked by the Idrak Mirzalizade’s joke about the problems with renting housing in Moscow. The comic was also attacked after his joke about xenophobes. The attackers demanded from him to apologize, but Idrak Mirzalizade refused. According to the comic, three weeks before the attack, he received several thousand threats.

The Russian MIA reduced the term of the ban on entry into Russia for comic Idrak Mirzalizade in Russia from life to 14 years, the “Interfax” reports today with reference to advocate Sergey Badamshin.

“In fact, the Idrak Mirzalizade’s stay (residence) in the Russian Federation is recognized as undesirable until August 27, 2035. We will appeal against the MIA’s decision,” said the advocate as quoted by the TASS.
