Journalists complain about being beaten after their detention in Baku

Law enforcers beat freelance journalists Fatima Movlanly and Sevindj Sadykhova, who were detained for filming videos near the building of the presidential administration of Azerbaijan, the victims themselves said.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, near the building of the presidential administration of Azerbaijan, the police detained three journalists, including Fatima Movlanly, Sevindj Sadygova (Sadykhova), and Teimur Kerimov, who came to cover the picket held by relatives of the soldiers killed in Nagorno-Karabakh. Later, Teimur Kerimov was released, and he said that he got a slight injury to his hand “from communicating with the police.”

Fatima Movlanly and Sevindj Sadykhova were beaten after their detention and released from the police station only four hours later, Fatima Movlanly told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

According to the journalists, they started filming the picket in front of the presidential administration building, but they were immediately approached by officers of the Special State Security Service. Fatima Movlanly, Sevindj Sadykhova, and reporter Teimur Kerimov were detained and charged with filming videos near a government facility.

The journalists were sent to the 9th police station of the Sabail District of Baku, and while Sevindj Sadykhova was hit while getting into a police van. Fatima Movlanly, according to her, was beaten at the police station, being thrown on the floor in the duty unit. According to Fatima, law enforcers were beating her, recalling her previous visits to the police station and saying that they were “tired” of her.

Fatima Movlanly and Sevindj Sadykhova announced their intention to file a complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan.
