Four high-ranking militaries arrested in Baku within embezzlement case

A court in Baku has sent four high-ranking officers of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) into custody on charges of embezzling the equivalent of nearly USD 6 million.

The Baku Military Court has granted the investigators' request to arrest four MoD officers – Rafael Khalilov, the head of the financial department, Fazail Aliev, the head of the financial division of one of military units, Bairam Bairamov, the head of the financial department of the Field Forces, Vusal Alizade, a financial department officer.

Each of them was arrested for four months, the APA has written today.

The above officers were detained in the course of the operation conducted by the State Security Service (SSS); they were charged under Article 179.4 of the Criminal Code (embezzlement on an especially large scale). According to investigators, the total amount of damage exceeds 10 million manats (about USD 5.88 million), the APA has added.
