Sultygov associates attack on him with an appeal to Kadyrov

The beating of Sarazhdin Sultygov, the co-chair of the “Mekh-Kkhel” public organization, may be connected with a public appeal to Ramzan Kadyrov concerning a dispute over border territories, the Ingush activist himself suggests.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, it has become known that two natives of Chechnya were detained in connection with an attack on Sarazhdin Sultygov. One of the detainees was filming on a mobile phone what was happening. The attacker himself, whom investigators believe to be a former OMON (riot police) fighter, has been put on the wanted list, a source reports.

On January 11, Ramzan Kadyrov threatened that if the statements that the Chechen authorities had illegally taken the territories of Ingushetia did not stop, then the "remaining villages" would also go to Chechnya. The next day, Kadyrov treated the authors of statements containing accusations against the republic's about the territories as provocateurs and gave them three days (until January 15) to formulate claims against him. On January 14, Sarazhdin Sultygov, a co-chairman of the above NGO, in response to Kadyrov's ultimatum, called on him to convene a bilateral commission to define the mutual borders.

Today, Sarazhdin Sultygov has confirmed to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that there was a former OMON fighter among the visitors, who in fact hit the activist.

The attack took place at about 3:00 p.m. Moscow time on January 31, the activist noted. “I stayed in the apartment. They rang the doorbell, and I opened it. A man was standing near my door, and he immediately told me: ‘If you call the name of this person again …’ and hit me. And they ran away at once,” Sarazhdin Sultygov said.

According to the activist, in total, law enforcers detained three persons. “The one who hit managed to escape. Three participants [of the attack] were natives of Chechnya, and one was a native of Ingushetia, an Akkin,” Sarazhdin Sultygov explained.

The attacker did not mention the name of the person he was talking about, but, according to Sarazhdin Sultygov, he could talk of Ramzan Kadyrov. “I associate the incident with him. Because there were several appeals, several responses to his rude allegations,” Sarazhdin Sultygov said.
