Five participants of protest against increase in OSAGO tariffs detained in Yerevan

Today, in Yerevan, participants of a protest action have demanded to leave the tariffs for OSAGO (compulsory motor third party liability insurance) unchanged. During the protest action, five drivers were detained for disobeying the police.

Armenian drivers have held a protest action against the increase in rates for OSAGO car insurance. The police have deployed additional forces, including special forces fighters, as well as special vehicles and a tow truck, to Yerevan’s Republic Square, where the building of the Armenian government is located, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports.

Loudly honking their horns, several dozen cars drove into the central square of Yerevan. Law enforcers began to stop cars, referring to the violation of traffic rules on the use of horns in exceptional cases.

A conflict arose between the drivers and the police, and as a result, several drivers were detained. The police also evacuated several cars to the penalty area.

Five drivers were detained for disobeying a lawful order of a police officer, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was informed in the press service for the Armenian Police.

The changes in OSAGO were adopted without public hearings, driver Artak Khachatryan told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent. According to the driver, the tariff changes were adopted purely to replenish the budget of insurance companies. Artak Khachatryan notes that the protests will continue until their demand is met and the tariffs for OSAGO remain unchanged.
