Azerbaijani activist's repost in social network causes summons to the GPO

Ilham Gussein, a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was summoned to the Azeri General Prosecutor's Office (GPO), where he was issued a verbal warning in connection with his publication on the Facebook. The PFPA treats it as pressure on the activist and on the party as a whole.

Ilham Gussein was summoned to the GPO of Azerbaijan on January 21. "I was told that the reason for the call was my repost on the Facebook of a message from the page of the 'Azadlyg' newspaper about the fights on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the Lachin District in mid-November 2021. I received an official verbal warning not to repost the messages not confirmed by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD). Otherwise, I may be brought to administrative responsibility," the activist told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The PFPA regards the activist's summons to the GPO as pressure on its member. "Ilham Gussein is a prominent figure in our party. The summons to the GPO means pressure on him. He has just been released from administrative arrest imposed on him for participating in a protest action on December 1, 2021, in defence of Salekh Rustamov; and they made him understand that at any moment new cases can be initiated against him," Natig Adilov, the head of the PFPA's press service, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
