Ten Azerbaijani citizens wait in Dagestani camp for opening of state border

Ten Azerbaijani citizens still stay in the Dagestani “Ogonyok” (Spark) children’s camp, and the date of their departure to their homeland is not yet known, the Department for Dagestan of the Ministry for Emergencies reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that a temporary accommodation centre (TAC) for Azerbaijani citizens awaiting the opening of the state border is located on the territory of the “Ogonyok” children’s camp in the Kaitag District of Dagestan.

As of January 19, ten persons till stayed in the “Ogonyok” children’s camp, which hosts the TAC for natives of Azerbaijan, who are waiting for a chance to cross the border between Russia and Azerbaijan. There are no women and children among them, an official from the Chief Department for Dagestan of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) reports.

On December 27, 2021, there was the recent departure of Azerbaijani citizens from the “Ogonyok” children’s camp to their homeland. Then 14 people were sent home. The date of the next departure is unknown, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been informed by the MfE’s official.

In turn, an official from the Ministry for National Policy and Religious Affairs of Dagestan has told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that the exact date for the opening of the land border between Russia and Azerbaijan is unknown. However, according to the official, there is unconfirmed information about a possible opening of the state border in March.
