Karabakh firefighters come under fire near border with Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani armed forces shelled firefighters in the village of Karmir Shouka, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Nagorno-Karabakh reported. The kindergarten, from which children were evacuated after the shelling attack, will resume its operation on January 11, the local authorities report.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh has announced that today, the Azerbaijani armed forces have opened fire in the direction of the village of Karmir Shouka (the Azerbaijani name is Qırmızı Bazar, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”) in the Martuni District, as a result of which a civilian’s car parked near the kindergarten caught fire. The children were evacuated from the kindergarten, and no one was injured.

While the Nagorno-Karabakh firefighters were extinguishing the car, the Azerbaijani armed forces fired at them too, the Nagorno-Karabakh police reported. “The intense shootout lasted about ten minutes. No one of the firefighters was injured,” said Unan Tadevosyan, the spokesperson for the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

“The Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire from firearms in the direction of the Karmir Shouka and Tagavard communities in the Martuni District. A car was burned down as a result of another provocation against the civilian population in the area of the kindergarten in the Qırmızı Bazar community,” the Nagorno-Karabakh police reported on Facebook.
