Yerevan clinic workers protest against layoffs

Several dozen employees of the branch of the Centre for Infectious Diseases have received notification about dismissal of their own free will, protesters in Yerevan have complained.

The protest was triggered by the fact that on December 30, employees received notifications that 80 of them will be fire since January 15, the "News.am" reports.

According to Ashot Sarkisyan, a deputy director of the Centre, the Ministry of Public Health and the Centre bosses are discussing the opening of an infectious diseases department in another hospital; a part of the staff will be transferred there.

Leyli Ovannisyan, a worker with 25 years of experience, said that no one said on what grounds the decision was made to dismiss them.

The protesters intend to appeal to "all instances" in order to prevent the unjustified dismissals.
