Ingushetia and Chechnya set records in number of divorces
In January-November 2021, all the regions of the Southern and North-Caucasian Federal Districts (SFD and NCFD) saw more divorces than in the same period of 2020, according to the data released by the "Rosstat" (Russian Federal Statistics Service). Ingushetia and Chechnya were the so-called "anti-leaders" in terms of the increase in the number of divorces, where their number increased by 218% and 163%, respectively.
On January 5, the "Rosstat" published statistics for 11 months of 2021 (January-November) on the number of divorces in Russian regions.
In the country as a whole, during this period, 859,000 marriages were registered, and 589,000 families broke up. The SFD registered 67,304 divorces (against 60,031 for the same period in 2020). Most divorces were in the Krasnodar Territory – 39,654 (compared to 31,565 in 2020); the Rostov Region is the runner-up with 23,953 divorces (19,559 in 2020). The Volgograd Region, which took third place, lags behind by a significant margin (12,030 divorces against 10,372 in 2020).
In the NCFD, according to the data from the "Rosstat", the number of broken families has also increased against 2020. The anti-leader among the NCFD republics was the Stavropol Territory, where 10,635 families broke up (9144 in 2020). Dagestan registered 7921 divorces (4481 in 2020); Chechnya – 3226 divorces (1225 in 2020); Ingushetia – 1381 divorces (434 in 2020). Thus, in Chechnya, by 163.3% more families broke up in January-November 2021 than in the same period of 2020; in Ingushetia – by 218.2%.
