Georgian authorities state new coronavirus wave

Georgia sees a new wave of coronavirus infection, Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the National Centre for Disease Control has stated and urged the country population to speed up the vaccination process.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 4, 2021, Ekaterina Tikaradze, the head of the Georgian Ministry of Public Health, did not rule out the introduction of compulsory vaccination against coronavirus in Georgia. The full course of vaccination was completed by 40% of the country's adults – 1,148,962 people. A total of 1,289,407 people, or 44.9% of the population, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, Georgian authorities said on December 31, 2021.

In Georgia, the number of coronavirus cases of the omicron strain has increased, and another wave of coronavirus infection spread begins, the "Georgia Online" outlet has reported with reference to the above Mr Gamkrelidze.

Amiran Gamkrelidze has stated that the new virus circulates in the country more intensively than it was in the second half of December; he has urged all the country residents to get vaccinated and follow the requirements to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.

"I ask everyone to get vaccinated again and follow the rules and regulations: first of all, to wear a mask, avoid large crowds, and observe the sanitary order and social distance. These recommendations are relatively easy to follow; thereby, we'll protect ourselves and the people around. That is, we get vaccinated for the country and people's health," the outlet quotes Mr Gamkrelidze as saying.
