Salekh Rustamov's advocates achieve examination of his state of health

After the advocates' petition, the court has appointed a forensic medical examination of Salekh Rustamov's health; its results will be used when considering the motion on his early release.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 6, 2021, Salekh Rustamov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), went on a hunger strike in protest against the fact that he had not been covered by the announced amnesty. On December 16, he stopped his hunger strike; and his health condition after the long hunger strike began improving, Adil Geibulla, a doctor, has informed. Bakhruz Bairamov, an advocate, has added that Rustamov was examined by Red Cross doctors.

The hunger strike of Salekh Rustamov, a Russian citizen, has triggered a broad public resonance, including outside Azerbaijan. A call to set him free was voiced out by human rights organizations in Azerbaijan, the spokesperson of the US Department of State and Co-Rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Protests were held in Baku in support of Salekh Rustamov; and his relatives and activists went on a solidarity hunger strike with him.
