Georgian citizen released in South Ossetia

The South-Ossetian authorities have released Gela Gochoshvili, who was detained in August for trespassing the border, the Georgian State Security Service (SSS) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Georgian citizens were repeatedly detained on the borderline separating Georgia from South Ossetia. Thus, on December 12, Mamuka Chkhikvadze, a citizen of Georgia, was detained near the village of Zemo Nikozi in the Gori municipality near the South-Ossetian borderline. On December 18, it became known that he was arrested for two months. Earlier, on December 10, two Georgian citizens were detained near the South-Ossetian village of Tsinagara.

The Georgian citizen, detained near the border (demarcation) line on August 14, has been released, the Georgian SSS has informed.

The above citizen is Gela Gochoshvili, who was detained on the demarcation line with South Ossetia and accused of illegally crossing it, the "Georgia Online" has added.

Restrictions on crossing the Georgia's borders with Abkhazia and South Ossetia violate the rights of residents of border villages; they cannot manage their households and risk being detained for crossing the border, says the report released by the human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI) on "borderization" in Georgia.
