Adjamatov sentenced to long imprisonment for financing terrorism

The court has sentenced Alikhan Adjamatov, a native of Dagestan, accused of assisting in terrorist activities, to 17 years in prison. This is too severe, given that Adjamatov's guilt has not been proved, his advocates assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 13, a court in Moscow began considering the case of Alikhan Adjamatov, a Moscow doctor of Dagestan origin. The defendant denied the accusations of financing terrorism; he told the court that the money transfers mentioned in his terrorism assistance case were not intended for terrorists; and one of the transfers was payment for medicines.

On December 10, judges of the Second Western District Court of Moscow sentenced Alikhan Adjamatov to 17 years in prison, his advocate, Umalat Saigitov, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"An absolutely innocent young man has been awarded such a severe sentence. We are shocked. The entire justice system looks stupid after such sentences [...] it's just a conveyor belt [for stamping sentences]," the advocate has stated.
