EU prolongs sanctions against two Chechen law enforcers

The European Union (EU) has prolonged for another year the sanctions for violations of human rights around the world, including the sanctions imposed on Abuzaid Vismuradov, the deputy chair of the Chechen government, supervising the law enforcement bloc, and former Argun police chief Ayub Kataev.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the European Union imposed sanctions against Abuzaid Vismuradov and Ayub Kataev on March 22. The Chechen law enforcers are banned from entering the EU countries, and their bank accounts, if found there, will be frozen.

On Monday, the Council of the European Union decided to prolong until December 8, 2022 the sanctions earlier imposed “against individuals and entities responsible for serious human rights violations and abuses in various countries worldwide.”

“Today’s decision confirms the EU’s commitment to denounce human rights violations and abuses wherever they occur, making use of all instruments,” reads a posting on the European Union’s website.
