Azerbaijani Press Council calls on the SFS to investigate beating of journalist

The State Frontier Service (SFS) of Azerbaijan should give an adequate assessment of the attack by a border guard officer on a member of the film crew covering the farewell ceremony for those who perished in the crash of a military helicopter, the Press Council has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 30, a total of 14 border guards perished when a military helicopter of the country's SFS crashed down; two other persons received traumas.

The Azerbaijani Press Council has condemned the attack committed by an SFS officer on journalists during the farewell ceremony for the soldiers who perished in the helicopter crash, the "Oxu.az" reports.

"The unworthy actions of Major Rovshan Djakhangirov in relation to Baku TV reporters while they were performing their professional duties and filming the farewell ceremony with the perished militaries are unacceptable and are an attempt to impede the free journalists' activities," the Press Council has stated.

Journalists treat the use of force against media professionals as unacceptable.

Rovshan Djakhangirov, and SFS Major, attacked Tural Museibov, an employee of the "Baku.TV", who tried to approach Elchin Guliev, the head of the SFS and take a comment on the helicopter crash, the "Azeri Daily" reports. "However, Djakhangirov rudely pushed the reporter away, and hit the operator with his fist," the "Azeri Daily" has clarified.
