Lukashenko treats Chechens as migrants' guides to Belarusian border

Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarusian President, has stated that citizens of Russia, including Chechens, were among organizers of the delivery of migrants from the Middle East to the border of Belarus with European countries.

According to his version, Russians, including Chechens, helped migrants in Belarus to get to the border and to "possibly cross" it, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Earlier, the Belarus' president promised that he would try to solve the migrants' problem before the New Year, as they "are hanging out" in Minsk and Grodno. Belarusian authorities will ask these people to return to their homeland, since there will be no humanitarian corridor to Germany; and a thousand migrants, according to Lukashenka, have already left for Iraq, the "Lenta.ru" reports. The migration crisis on the Belarus-EU border began after in May, 2021, Lukashenko threatened to loosen control over migrants' flows and drug trafficking amid his aggravated relations with the West.

On November 8, the situation on Belarus' borders with Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, where refugees rushed from the start of the year, sharply deteriorated. Several thousand people approached the Polish border from the Belarusian side, some of them tried to penetrate the territory of Poland.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 15, in Poland, two natives of Chechnya were charged in the case of illegal migration. According to the prosecutor's office, they together with a Ukrainian citizen illegally transported migrants from the Middle East to Germany via Poland.
