Georgian journalist goes on hunger strike in Saakashvili's support

Gigla Tumanishvili, a correspondent for the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel, has started his hunger strike demanding to transfer Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia, to a multidisciplinary civilian clinic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Saakashvili has been on a hunger strike since October 1 in Rustavi Prison, demanding his release. On the 35th day of his hunger strike, he has developed problems with communication and memory, and on the 36th day – with his vision and hearing, his defence has emphasized.

On November 6, Gigla Tumanishvili, a correspondent for the oppositional "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel, announced the start of his hunger strike in support of Mikhail Saakashvili, the "Georgia-Online" has reported.

Tumanishvili is hunger-striking near the prison where Saakashvili is kept, demanding to place him into a multidisciplinary hospital. "If Mikhail Saakashvili is not transferred there and is killed in Rustavi Prison, I can state frankly that we'll lose our country and our statehood, for the preservation of which everyone is fighting as best as he can," the "News-Georgia" has quoted Mr Tumanishvili as saying.
