ECtHR awards compensation to mother of a resident of Ingushetia killed by law enforcers

On October 19, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) awarded compensation of 60,000 euros to a mother of Muslim Kuriev, who was killed in the Ingush village of Plievo during the counterterrorist operation (CTO) in 2014. The Strasbourg Court found the investigation into the Muslim Kuriev’s death ineffective and ruled that Russian authorities were responsible for his death.

According to the ECtHR, in the case of Muslim Kuriev’s death, the Russian authorities violated the articles on the right to life (Article 2) and the right to respect for private and family life (Article 8) of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

Every month, quarter, and every year, the “Caucasian Knot” posts statistics with regard to victims of the armed conflict in the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) in Section “Northern Caucasus: Statistics of Victims”.
