Relatives associate detention of a Georgian law enforcer with his support of Saakashvili

Giorgi Datiashvili, the former deputy chief of the Georgian Constitutional Security Department, is suspected of making and transporting firearms, ammunition, and explosive devices. An advocate and family members associate the detention of Giorgi Datiashvili with his participation in a rally in support of Mikhail Saakashvili.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, law enforcers detained Lekso Rapava, the former chief of the Khobi police, and a search was carried out in the house of former Police Major Ruslan Shamakhiya. Revaz Lazishvili, the chief of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Border Police Department, resigned in protest against the actions of the police against the former law enforcers.

The government decided to punish all those associated with the opposition, advocate Vakhtang Iashvili said on the air of the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel.

The police associated the detention of Giorgi Datiashvili to the discovery of an automatic firearm during a search in his house. Family members deny storage of firearms. They associated the detention of Giorgi Datiashvili with his participation in the October 14 rally in support of Mikhail Saakashvili.

Kakha Datiashvili, a brother of the detainee, added that the authorities became more active after a rally in Tbilisi with the demand to release Mikhail Saakashvili.
