Story with Moscow residents becomes first case of slavery of tourists in Dagestan

An incident, when two Moscow residents were deceived, brought to Dagestan, and forced to work in a greenhouse there, became the first case of labour slavery of tourists in the republic, the leader of the “Alternative” movement stated.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 11, it became known that Moscow residents Pyotr Pelekhanov and Olga Lifanova fell into slavery in Dagestan, where they spent almost a month, working in a greenhouse.

According to Pyotr Pelekhanov, they were hitchhiking to Crimea and boarded a bus, the driver of which brought them to Dagestan and explained that “they had been sold.” An owner of the greenhouse gave the driver 50,000 roubles and told Pyotr Pelekhanov and Olga Lifanova that they had to work out the money for him.

Today, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been told by Oleg Melnikov, the leader of the movement “Alternative”, the story of Pyotr Pelekhanov and Olga Lifanova has become the first case of labour slavery of tourists in Dagestan.

“There have never been such cases with tourists earlier. This is the first time when a tourist falls into slavery in Dagestan. The story of Peter Pelekhanov and Olga Lifanova is surprising. Earlier, slave owners mostly abducted people looking for job, and they were not interested in kidnapping tourists,” Oleg Melnikov said.
