Film by Nalchik director shown at Venice Film Festival

The premiere of the film “Mama, I’m Home” by Nalchik director Vladimir Bitokov took place in the contest programme of the Venice Film Festival.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Vladimir Bitokov’s film “Mama, I’m Home”, starring Ksenia Rappoport and Yuri Borisov, is included in the Orizzonti Extra programme of the 78th Venice Film Festival.

This year, the directorate of the festival and the Venice Biennale, which includes the show, introduced the Armani Beauty Prize, the Audience Award in the new Orizzonti Extra programme, which “is designed to represent new trends in world cinema,” Venice Film Festival Artistic Director Alberto Barbera said.

The film “Mama, I’m Home” tells a story taking place in Nalchik. The main character Tonya is a bus driver who is waiting for the return of her son, who left to fight under a contract in Syria. When Tonya is informed that her son was killed, she refuses to believe it and begins a struggle on her own, demanding to return her son to her, the “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” reports.

Let us remind you that film’s producer Alexander Rodnyansky called the inclusion of the film “Mama, I’m home” in the official programme of the Venice Film Festival a “very great success” of Vladimir Bitokov. The film director himself admitted that showing the film to the audience of the Venice Film Festival for the first time is “extremely exciting.”

Vladimir Bitokov is a native of Nalchik, and in 2011, he entered Alexander Sokurov’s “Workshop of Film and Television Directors” at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University. When Vladimir Bitokov shot the film “Deep Rivers”, he became the author of the first full-length feature film in the Kabardian language.
