On August 23-29, 2021, no one fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of August 23-29, 2021, no killed or wounded in the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the “Caucasian Knot” based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Three persons sentenced to imprisonment for involvement in ranks of militants

On August 25, in Rostov-on-Don, the Southern District Military Court found Sultan Omarov, a resident of Kaspiysk, and Shamsudin Shamsudinov, a resident of Kizlyar, guilty of attempting to enter the territory of Syria and join militants. Sultan Omarov was sentenced to ten years, and Shamsudin Shamsudinov – to six years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony. Neither Sultan Omarov, nor Shamsudin Shamsudinov pleaded guilty.

On August 27, the Southern District Military Court found Arthur Chemkov, a 36-year-old resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, guilty of aiding and abetting the “Islamic State” (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the “Caucasian Knot) and sentenced him to 11 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony. Arthur Chemkov pleaded not guilty.

Every month, quarter, and every year, the “Caucasian Knot” posts statistics with regard to victims of the armed conflict in the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) in Section “Northern Caucasus: Statistics of Victims”.
