Baksan resident sentenced for aiding and abetting IS militant

In Rostov-on-Don, the Southern District Military Court found Arthur Chemkov, a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, guilty of aiding and abetting a member of the “Islamic State” (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”) and sentenced him to 11 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.

In March 2019, the 36-year-old native of Baksan brought a member of the terrorist organization to the territory of a horticultural co-operative, together with him arranged a hiding in a basement of a building, and hid ammunition and explosive devices in it, the press service for the Southern District Military Court reported.

Arthur Chemkov pleaded not guilty.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that on August 4, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don found Khamatbi Indreev, a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, guilty of providing housing and food to a militant and sentenced him to 5.5 years of imprisonment. Khamatbi Indreev also pleaded not guilty.
