Two protesters against construction of a high-rise building detained in Yerevan

Today, in Yerevan, a clash has occurred between the police and residents of the city, who are protesting against the construction of a 12-storey building with underground parking.

In July 2020, the Mayoralty of Yerevan granted the developer a building permit, and starting from that moment, residents of the residential quarter have been fighting against the construction of a multi-storey building, with the collection of signatures. Today, the protesters have tried to obstruct construction work, the “Aysor.Am” reports.

Residents of the house in No. 6/1 on Alikhanyan Brothers Street protest against the construction of a multi-storey building next to small houses. The huge high-rise building not only does not fit into the architectural and construction composition of the district, but it will simply overshadow small houses. The tenants insist that the construction is illegal. The dispute with the police escalated into a clash. The police used force, including against women, the ”News.Am” reported.

Two protesters were detained under the administrative article on failure to obey the lawful request of a policeman, the ”News.Am” reported with reference to the police press service.
