Court demands from investigators to assess law enforcers' actions against activist Iritov

Based on the application submitted by Aslan Iritov, the head of the NGO "Volny Aul" (Free Village), about his beating by policemen, a Nalchik court has obliged investigators to check the information.

On July 26, 2021, Iritov stated in court the fabrication of his criminal case and spoke about the circumstances of the incident with policemen.

On October 31, 2017, when members of the "Volny Aul" were going to hold a rally, law enforcers came into the yard of Iritov's household with a warning about the inadmissibility of an unsanctioned action. According to the prosecution, Aslan Iritov, a disabled person who has no wrists, injured Khamidbi Gubashiev, a deputy head of the "E" Centre. Iritov himself complained that his family members were injured, and is seeking criminal prosecution of law enforcers, while refusing to admit his guilt.

Now, on August 6, the court satisfied the complaint lodged by lawyers of the Committee against Torture (CaT), who demanded to treat the refusal to initiate a criminal case against law enforcers as unjustified. The court has obliged the bosses of the Nalchik investigating division to conduct an additional check of policemen's action, human rights defenders have reported.

On December 9, 2020, Iritov's defence filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about the violation of his rights in the form of a refusal to investigate the beating of him and his family by policemen.
