Sokurov’s school becomes a key to success of young directors from Kabardino-Balkaria

According to film industry activists, Kabardino-Balkaria owes the appearance of several well-known film directors to Alexander Sokurov, who created a school, selected students, and revealed their talent. Alexander Sokurov’s students have to choose topics with an eye to the trends of world festivals. However, in his film, Vladimir Bitokov raised a topic really relevant for the Caucasus, film critic Indira Cherdjieva notes.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in July, the film "Mama, I’m home” by Nalchik director Vladimir  was included in the programme of the Venice Film Festival.

The films directed by Alexander Sokurov’s students from Kabardino-Balkaria have repeatedly received awards at film festivals. So, on July 16, the film “Unclenching the Fists” directed by Kira Kovalenko won the Grand Prix of the "Special Look" authors’ film competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

Theatre producer and director Leyla Kurashinova considers the success of young film directors from Kabardino-Balkaria to be Alexander Sokurov’s merit.

“It is wonderful that young people, film directors from the Caucasus, open up themselves to the world, while carrying both national and European culture,” Leyla Kurashinova added.

Film critic Indira Cherdjieva considered the topic of the crisis of family relations and the conflict between the older and younger generations in the Caucasus described by Vladimir Bitokov to be relevant.

In his new film, Vladimir Bitokov raised issues urgent for the Caucasus, Doctor of Sciences in Philology Madina Khakuasheva suggests.
