Two Chechen residents sentenced for transferring money for travelling to Syria

A court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Anvar Bolotkhanov to 5.5 years of imprisonment for transferring money to his friend for travelling to Syria. Kamil Eldarov, who provided his bank card for making the money transfer, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. Both residents of Chechnya pleaded guilty.

Anvar Bolotkhanov, a 32-year-old native of the village of Braguny in the Gudermes District of Chechnya, was accused of assisting terrorist activities, while Kamil Eldarov, a 26-year-old native of Gudermes, was accused of aiding and abetting terrorism.

In 2015, Anvar Bolotkhanov used a bank card provided to him by Kamil Eldarov to transfer 20,000 roubles “to third person” in order to facilitate travelling to Syria to join an illegal armed formation (IAF),” the press service of the Southern District Military Court reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that the court upheld the sentence of Ramzan Akhyadov, a native of Chechnya, extradited from Georgia, who was sentenced in Russia to seven years of imprisonment for involvement in the ranks of Syrian militants. According to the investigators’ information, in June 2015, in Turkey, Ramzan Akhyadov “persuaded his acquaintance to create on the territory of Chechnya an illegal armed formation, controlled by the international terrorist organization “Islamic State” (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”), banned in Russia.
