Law enforcers open 78 criminal cases on election violations in Armenia

Armenian law enforcers have initiated 78 criminal cases related to violations at the June 20 early parliamentary elections. A total of 83 persons are charged under these criminal cases, the country's General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that observers and oppositionists pointed to numerous violations during the early parliamentary elections that took place in Armenia on June 20. However, the Constitutional Court of Armenia upheld the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) on the election outcomes.

The GPO's official website informs that 78 criminal cases have been initiated in connection with violations at the elections: 33 criminal cases have been opened on the facts of giving, receiving and mediation in receiving pre-election bribes. Six criminal cases are opened on the facts of coercion or obstruction of the campaign, the same number – for the violations of the secrecy of vote.

Five criminal cases concern violence or threats of violence at polling stations. Criminal cases have been opened also for attempted double voting, forgery of election outcomes and ballot papers, and coercion to go to the polls and vote for a certain party or bloc.

In total, 83 people have been charged under these criminal cases, the GPO has informed.
