Armenian MoD report mortar shelling of its positions
Soldiers of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are shelling Armenian positions in the vicinity of the village of Eraskh from various weapons, including mortars, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported. In its turn, the Azerbaijani MoD has claimed that Azerbaijani militaries were shelled from the territory of Armenia and opened fire in return.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on July 19, the Armenian MoD announced that Azerbaijani militaries had shelled the Armenian positions stationed near the village of Eraskh in the Nakhichevan direction.
The Armenian MoD reported that at night on July 20, the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border remained tense.
According to the MoD, small arms of various calibres, as well as mortars, are used for shelling Armenian positions. "Responsibility for the escalation lies with the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan," the Armenian MoD has stated.
Radik Ogikyan, the head of the Eraskh community of the Ararat Region of Armenia, was wounded during shelling from the Azerbaijani side, Gagik Shamshyan, a photojournalist has reported today on the website shamshyan.com.
In its turn, the Azerbaijani MoD has also reported the shelling of the combat positions of its troops by Armenian militaries. According to the MoD, Azerbaijani militaries opened a return fire "in order to suppress the opponents' fire."
