Relatives of two arrested Dagestani residents claim problems with medical care in SIZO

Islam Barzukaev, a native of Derbent, needs two surgeries, but did not receive medical treatment because of his transfer to a Rostov SIZO (pre-trial prison), while Gasan Kurbanov received medical assistance only partially due to a shortage of doctors, relatives of the defendants reported. One of three law enforcers, dissatisfied with pickets in defence of Islam Barzukaev and Gasan Kurbanov, continues to seek from the court to grant the claim for the protection of honour and dignity.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that relatives of Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov, and Mirzaali Mirzaliev, residents of Derbent, held pickets in Makhachkala in support of them. A mother of Mirzaali Mirzaliev claimed that investigators were forcing him to incriminate Islam Barzukaev and Gasan Kurbanov.

According to the investigators’ version, Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov, and Mirzaali Mirzaliev organized an armed grouping to “make attempts on lives of law enforcers.” According to relatives, all three had been kidnapped and forced to confess under torture.

All three defendants were transferred from Dagestan, and their criminal cases were sent to a military court in Rostov-on-Don, reported Elena Barzukaeva, a mother of one of the defendants.

According to her, they did not manage to treat her son in Dagestan, since on June 25, together with Mirzaali Mirzaliev, Islam Barzukaev was transferred first to Astrakhan and then to Rostov-on-Don.

Gasan Kurbanov was convoyed from Makhachkala on July 1, his aunt Zainab Rabadanova said. Her nephew spent 1.5 months seeking treatment for neurology in a SIZO.
