Theologian reprimands Chechen women for addressing sorcerers

According to a report released by the “Grozny” TV Channel, Adam Elzhurkaev, the head of the Centre for Islamic Medicine, held a conversation with the women detained for visiting sorcerers. Social media users pointed to an excess of stories about the fight against sorcerers on the “Grozny” TV Channel.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the summer of 2019, Chechen authorities intensified persecuting those who provided occult services. The “Grozny” state-run TV Company regularly releases reports about conversations with detainees, held by Adam Elzhurkaev, the head of the Centre for Islamic Medicine. So, on June 27, the “Grozny” TV Channel reported that the police detained two women and a man on suspicion of providing occult services, as well as a taxi driver who took clients to the sorcerers.

Adam Elzhurkaev, the head of the Centre for Islamic Medicine, held a preventive conversation with the women detained for visiting sorcerers, the “Grozny” ChGTRK (State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company) reports today. “The theologian reminded the women that the sorcery is an extremely grave sin in Islam,” says the annotation to the Instagram story of the “Grozny” TV Company.

In their comments to the video, many social media users called for tougher punishment for providing occult services. Meanwhile, some users drew attention in their comments to the abundance of the TV stories about sorcerers. “Maybe they are released for statistics. However, I believe there cannot be so many fortune-tellers and charlatans!" user danna_0754 expressed her surprise.
