Director of orphanage in Ninotsminda agrees with Ombudsperson to monitor institution

The administration of an orphan boarding school in Ninotsminda will monitor the situation in the institution next week together with Georgia’s Ombudsperson Nino Lomdjariya, Bishop Yakov of Bodbe, the director of the orphan boarding school, announces.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 6, the court pronounced a decision that all inmates of the orphan boarding school should be distributed to families and family-type orphanages. On June 14, the Georgian Catholicos-Patriarch replaced the director of the orphan boarding school. The new director of the institution announced the personnel cleaning and reforms.

On June 3, Ombudsperson Nino Lomdjariya reported that since 2016, three criminal cases have been instituted on violence in the orphan boarding school in Ninotsminda, including one on rape. Eleven NGOs demanded an immediate and harsh response from the authorities and also pointed out that the orphan boarding house was headed by Bishop Spiridon (Abuladze), who was suspected of rape.

Bishop Yakov of Bodbe, the new director of the orphan boarding house, notes that he plans to carry out the transformation at the institution very quickly. The existence of so large orphanages is unacceptable, the Bishop has added as quoted by the “Sputnik Georgia”.
