Azerbaijan’s authorities declare Shusha a culture reserve

Members of the Azerbaijani parliament have adopted in the third reading the bill “On the city of Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan”. The bill envisages the creation of a state city reserve in Shusha.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 7, Ilham Aliev issued a resolution to declare the city of Shusha the cultural capital of the country. The goal of the above decision was mentioned as “restoration of the historical appearance of the city of Shusha and its former glory,” as well as the city’s reunification “with the traditional rich cultural life, its promotion in the international arena as a shining pearl of the rich culture of Azerbaijan.”

The city of Shusha (the Armenian name is Shushi, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”) came under the control of Azerbaijan during the aggravation of the Karabakh conflict in 2020. The Azerbaijan’s authorities repaired a water pipe damaged in shelling attacks, and a power transmission line was installed there. The road to Shusha is to be constructed within 1.5 years.

The President of Azerbaijan instructed his subordinates to return to the city of Shusha its historical appearance, restore the mosques, and revive the Days of Vagif's Poetry and the “Khary Bulbul” Festival.

In particular, the bill provides for the creation of a state reserve in the city of Shusha and a special fund associated with it, the “Trend” reports.
