Armenian MoD considers accusations of Azerbaijan a provocation

The Armenian military personnel did not fire a single shot in the direction of Azerbaijan, the Ministry Defence (MoD) of Armenia reports today. Armenian military officials requested Azerbaijan to withdraw its soldiers from the territory of Armenia immediately.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, Azerbaijan has accused Armenia of shelling attacks on the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces on May 24-26.

On May 25, the Armenian Ministry of Defence announced the death of a 32-year-old contract soldier on the border near the village of Verin Shorzha in the Gegarkunik Region of Armenia as a result of a shootout with the Azerbaijani soldiers. The Azerbaijani MoD denied reports about the shelling attack on the Azerbaijani military positions by the Armenian army near the village of Verin Shorzha and stated that the death of the Armenian soldier was an accident.

The Armenian military officials called the accusations of the Azerbaijani side “a pathetic attempt to hide their provocations and the killing of Armenian soldier Gevorg Khurshudyan on May 25,” the Armenian MoD declares in its statement today.

“In connection with the Azerbaijan’s attempts to accuse Armenian of the shelling attacks on the city of Shushi, the Armenian side appealed to the commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh. An answer was received reporting that no shooting has been registered in the direction in question,” the Armenian MoD reports on its official website as translated from the Armenian language by the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

On May 24-26, the Armenian military personnel did not fire a single shot in the direction of Azerbaijan, the Armenian military officials report. The Armenian MoD emphasizes it is unacceptable when the Azerbaijani side makes any attempts to take under its control the sovereign territory of Armenia. The Armenian military officials demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Azerbaijani soldiers. “Otherwise, the Armenian side reserves the right to resolve the problem by any method, including by force,” the Armenian MoD declares.
