Pashinyan counts about 600 Azerbaijani soldiers on territory of Armenia

The situation on the Syunik and Gegarkunik sections of the border remains tense, and about 500-600 Azerbaijani soldiers still stay there, Nikol Pashinyan, the acting Prime Minister of Armenia, reports.

According to Yerevan, on May 12, the Azerbaijani armed forces advanced to the Black Lake region. Baku claims that Azerbaijani border guards simply changed their deployment and stayed within the borders of the Lachin and Kelbadjar Districts bordering on Armenia. Negotiations between the countries have not yielded any results yet.

Nikol Pashinyan reports that the Armenian troops “are trying to limit the potential of the Azerbaijanis’ activities,” the Russian international news agency (RIA) “Novosti” reports.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of India has declared that Indian diplomats monitor with concern the situation on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia and call on for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. In response, the press service for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has noted “it is Armenia which violates the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan, while Baku is now restoring them.”
