Defence of policemen interprets results of examination on Djabiev’s death in their favour

Inal Djabiev entered a police station being already injured, and the criminal case against policemen should be closed, the defence has claimed following the results of the examination. One of the charges was dropped from the policemen, but the General Prosecutor’s Office did not inform relatives of Inal Djabiev about that, his widow points out.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the policemen arrested in connection with the death of Inal Djabiev have been on hunger strike since May 9. The defendants demand a meeting with South-Ossetian MPs and the Ombudsman. They stated that investigators had failed to prove their guilt. The policemen have stopped their hunger strike today.

In August 2020, Inal Djabiev died after an interrogation by the police in a case on an attempt on the Minister of Internal Affairs. Nikolai Tskhovrebov, who was detained together with Inal Djabiev, also complained about torture.

Relatives of the accused policemen believe that the investigation is proceeding too slowly. “Almost nine months have passed since the arrest of the policemen,” said a mother of one of the defendants.

According to the conclusions of the forensic examination, Inal Djabiev’s death “occurred as a result of acute heart failure caused by a trauma.” Based on the results of another forensic examination conducted by Russian experts, the General Prosecutor’s Office of South Ossetia reported the cause of Inal Djabiev’s death as heart failure against the background of the withdrawal of the narcotic drug. The widow of Inal Djabiev refused to believe the results of the mentioned forensic examination.

Widow Oksana Sotieva noted that in any case, it was after his detention when Inal Djabiev was fatally injured. “Police employees noticed and took it for granted. Only indifference can be more terrible than murder,” the woman concluded.
