KBR cancels mass events on Eid al-Fitr

On May 13, festive namazes (prayers) will be held in mosques of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), after which believers will celebrate the Uraza-Bairam (Eid-al-Fitr) in their family circles, the KBR's Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) has informed.

The Eid al-Fitr is a fast-breaking holiday of the in honour of the end of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. This year it falls on May 13.

Parishioners were told that they should come to mosques with their own rugs, and use medical masks, said Alim Sizhazhev, a deputy chair of KBR's SAM. According to his story, because of the restrictions not yet lifted due to the pandemic, mass cultural events in honour of the holiday have been cancelled.

During Ramadan, the SAM has spread, with the support of entrepreneurs, 1000 food packages among needy families. Also, with the support of the SAM, a charity Iftar (a fast-breaking event) was held in a women's colony.

According to the operative headquarters, as of May 6, the KBR had diagnosed over 24,000 cases of coronavirus infection; 457 people died.
