Offline events are planned in Nalchik for Day of Circassian Flag

On April 25, the city of Nalchik, the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) will host a concert, dances and a flash mob on the occasion of the Circassian Flag Day. Circassians are scattered across many countries and especially need such a unifying symbol as a flag, the organizers of the events believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2020, Circassian NGOs refused from mass events on the Circassian Flag Day because of coronavirus.

Now, many restrictions have already been lifted in the KBR; therefore, the programme of the Circassian Flag Day is much broader than a year ago, said Aslan Beshto, the head of the NGO "Kabardian Congress". According to his story, a concert by local artists will take place in Nalchik, and there will be traditional dances in the street. In the evening, an outline of the Circassian Flag made of candles will be lit in Nalchik.

Online events are also planned. "We'll post a video about the history of the Circassian Flag and tell what it is famous for," Mr Beshto said, stressing that the flag is very important for the preservation of the Circassian identity and that in order to preserve the nation, it is necessary to preserve the language.

For the culture of the nation to develop, online courses should be conducted; and a mobile application for learning the language should be launched; books on history should be published, Ratmir Karov, an activist, believes.
