ECtHR demands information from Baku on condition of imprisoned ex-MP Gusein Abdullaev
The health condition of Gusein Abdullaev, a former Azerbaijani MP, who is serving his term in a colony, is critical, but the Penitentiary Service would not send doctors to him, his advocate has stated. The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has demanded information from Azerbaijani authorities about Abdullaev's state of health and the measures taken to provide him with medical care.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2013, Gusein Abdullaev applied for asylum in Germany, claiming his political persecution in homeland. Despite being granted asylum, he was detained in Turkey by the Interpol and extradited to Azerbaijan in April 2019, where he was accused of illegal business and fraud. The court sentenced him to six years in prison. Abdullaev's health condition deteriorated sharply after a hunger strike he held on April 12-17.
Gusein Abdullaev was put on the wanted list on suspicion of tax evasion in June 2013, after the video clip appeared to his song "Susma!" (Don't be silent!), which showed a dispersal by the police of protests in Baku.
Djavad Djavadov, an advocate, has noted that Abdullaev's health condition continues worsening.
Let us remind you that the UN working group called for Abdullaev's release claiming the illegality of his detention in Turkey, extradition to Azerbaijan and conviction there.
