Analysts argue about benefits of training programme in Northern Caucasus

The programme of professional training for residents of Northern Caucasian for their employment, announced by the Worldskills Foundation, will not meet expectations, as there are few jobs for highly skilled workers in the region, some analysts suggest. Their opponents argue that high-tech professions are in demand everywhere, and specialists can work online.

In 2021, the Worldskills Foundation will take part in a professional re-training programme for residents of Northern Caucasus. The programme will be focused on the citizens of Russia, who are most vulnerable on the labour market, and they will undergo training within the programme of the “Demography” national project, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been informed by an officer of the Worldskills Foundation.

“Anyone who wants to take part in the programme must fit into one of the categories: for example, an unemployed mother, a person who lost his or her job and registered at the labour exchange, or a person over the age of 50,” said the officer of the Worldskills Foundation.

The re-training of the unemployed in Northern Caucasus as specialists in new technologies will not meet expectations, economist Natalia Zubarevich suggests. She notes that local residents are mainly employed in the public sector and trade. Natalia Zubarevich believes that the re-training programme can increase the outflow of residents to other regions.

Elberd Aziev, a web designer and a founder of the Ingush IT community, says that he, together with a group of like-minded people, is trying to popularize the IT profession in Ingushetia. The man calls the professional training programme by the Worldskills Foundation appropriate and notes the lack of resources in Ingushetia to train IT specialists.
