“Voice of Beslan” activists go on hunger strike in support of Navalny

Ella Kesaeva, the co-chair of the “Voice of Beslan” public committee, and four other activists of the movement began a hunger strike in solidarity with oppositionist Alexei Navalny.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 31, Alexei Navalny went on a hunger strike in a penal colony. The oppositionist demands to allow an invited doctor visiting him and to hand over the necessary medicines to him.

Ella Kesaeva, the co-chair of the “Voice of Beslan” public committee, and four other members of the movement, who suffered from the terror act in Beslan, including Zemfira Tsirikhova, Boris Ilyin, Zarina Kesaeva, and Zamira Kokoeva, declared the hunger strike in solidarity with Alexei Navalny.

Ella Kesaeva compared Alexei Navalny with victims of the terror act in Beslan. “The situation is such that we see: the man has been taken hostage and they are finishing him off. Our children were also taken hostage in 2004. They were not rescued then,” Ella Kesaeva said.

According to her, “Alexei Navalny has become a person who has been able to convey to the consciousness of millions what the Putin’s power is.” “He showed us that one should not be afraid, that one should fight,” stated Ella Kesaeva as quoted by the newspaper “Novaya Gazeta”.

On April 10, activist Nikolai Formozov also declared a hunger strike in solidarity with Alexei Navalny. The activist created the page “Hunger Strike of Solidarity with Alexei Navalny” on Facebook.
