Doctors report jump in coronavirus infections in Georgia

For the first time since January 2021, the number of people infected with coronavirus in Georgia for the past 24 hours has exceeded a thousand people, said Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 11, Georgian authorities admitted the onset of the third coronavirus wave, noting that up to 70 percent of infections are caused by the British virus strain.

Georgia has seen the first since January jump in coronavirus infections – 1374 new cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed during the last 24 hours, Mr Gamkrelidze announced on April 13, adding that the infection rate growth was fixed in all the regions. "Tbilisi is in first place, followed by Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Adjara, Imereti and other regions," he said.

The vaccination process in Georgia is slow – from March 15 to April 13, a total of 22,090 people were vaccinated against coronavirus, the "Sputnik Georgia" reported with reference to Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili.
