Video with reprimanding Makhachkala woman sparks discussion in social network
Some Instagram users have criticized the Dagestan police for publishing a video in which a law enforcer is scolding a woman from Makhachkala who sold illegal substances to teenagers. Their opponents have stood up for the police; and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) explained that the video was made public for edifying purposes.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the practice of public repentances is actively used in Chechnya and has spread over other regions of Russia. In particular, the Dagestani MIA has repeatedly posted records with detainees' apologies.
"For her own benefit, the woman continued spreading prohibited substances among children and adults," the Dagestani MIA stated on the Instagram.
Most commentators have condemned the practice of spreading distributing naswar and snus (tobacco sucking packets), while some of them gave the addresses where such substances were sold and asked policemen to check them.
Many users gave sharply criticized the detained woman and other distributors of illegal substances, and some of them treated the law enforcers' actions as too liberal. Only a few users have criticized the police for posting the video.
