Incident with horsemen from Chechnya triggers reproaches against Dagestani law enforcers

In the Novolaksky District, policemen have stopped the participants of the equestrian march from Chechnya, who had intended to visit the grave of the commander Baisangur Benoevsky, the video clips posted in social networks report. The incident occurred in the disputed lands of the former Aukhov District, Instagram users have noted, treating the law enforcers' zeal as excessive.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 23, thousands of people, including residents of Chechnya and Ingushetia, arrived in the Novolaksky District of Dagestan to commemorate the deportation victims. All the speakers at the rally touched on the issue of the restoration of the Aukhov District, in the territory of which Chechens lived before 1944. This problem creates the basis for conflicts of residents of the two republics, Instagram users have pointed out.

For almost 30 years, the Dagestan Chechens have been waiting for the restoration of the Aukhov District, in the territory of which their ancestors had lived before the Stalinist deportation.

The Dagestani police have stopped a column of horsemen with Chechen flags, the "Dosh" magazine reports. As a result, 29 horse riders only managed to reach the grave of the commander Baisangur Benoevsky, a source from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has informed, as reported by the Telegram channel "Ask Rasul".

The equestrian march was peaceful, Bashlam Chimaev, a blogger, wrote on the Instagram. "There were no weapons, no one was disturbed ... Have we lived to the point when permits are needed to visit monuments and graves?" he has asked.
